Pushover API

As discussed in the Email & Push Notifications section, QuestionPulse can send real-time notifications to your phone when it finds new questions. This is useful so you don't constantly need to check QuestionPulse itself to see if new questions have been found, and can help declutter your inbox if you don't want to receive too many email alerts.

The current push functionality is limited to simply letting you know when new questions have been found, but these push settings will work in conjunction with a new batch of features that will be rolled out soon that enable easy and fast responses from your mobile devices.

The only downside to Pushover.net's API is the fact that it costs a small fee per platform. The bright side, however, is that it only costs a $5 one-time fee per platform (so if you want to send push notifications to multiple Android devices it's only $5 to cover all the devices, and same for iOS/iPhone - you don't have to pay an extra $5 per device). Additionally, you can get a free week trial so there's no upfont investment.

The plus side is that Pushover.net offers a generous 7,500 pushes per month for free, which should be more than sufficient for your needs with QuestionPulse.

To get set up with Pushover:

1) Visit Pushover.net.

2) Click the "Login or Signup" link:

3) On the "Login to Pushover" interface, click the "create a new account through our website" link:

4) Enter the required information to create your Pushover account, then click "Signup" button:

Note: The website says it's easier to sign up through their mobile app, but it takes extra steps to configure the API keys you need for QuestionPulse to properly utilize the service, so this web-based approach is actually the better route.

5) You will be taken to the Pushover dashboard, where you'll be prompted to confirm your email address. Before continuing please check the email address you used to register for the verification email and verify your account.

6) Once you've verified your account, you'll be presented with your Pushover User Key. Please make note this key as you will need it to enter it in QuestionPulse's Push Settings interface in a moment:

7) Click the "Create an Application/API Token" link at the bottom of the dashboard:

8) In the "Create New Application/API Token" interface, enter "QuestionPulse" in the Name field, leave the Description & URL fields blank, check the box to agree to the Terms of Service, then click the Create Application button:

9) You will be taken to a confirmation page that shows your API Token/Key for the app. Please note this as you will need to enter it in QuestionPulse's Push Settings interface:

10) Install the Pushover App on your mobile device(s). For information on how to get the app, please see the Pushover Device Clients page and follow the instructions outlined there. Once installed, simply log in with your same credentials you used when registering for Pushover in Step 4.

11) Set your Pushover User Key (from Step 6) and the Application API Token/Key (from Step 9) in the QuestionPulse Push Settings interface. Once configured, you can enable push alerts in the Alerts Interface.
